چکیده

This brief report is a followup to the recent proposal of using La− as another candidate, in addition to Os−, in laser cooling of anions, which can then be used to cool sympathetically antiprotons. Using the relativistic configuration interaction (RCI) formalism, we calculate the photodetachment cross sections of the upper laser cooling state La− 5d6s6p D1 and Os− 5d6s6p D9/2. Our results show La− has a very similar two-photon detachment loss as Os−, retaining it as another promising candidate for sympathetically cooling antiprotons.

High-resolution optical spectroscopy of Os−with a view to laser cooling of atomic anions

Atomic anions are generally not amenable to optical spectroscopy because they are loosely bound systems and rarely have bound excited states. Until recently, there was only one known negative ion with a strong bound–bound electronic transition, the osmium anion Os−. The electric-dipole transition between the F9/2 ground and DJ excited state of this ion provides unique insight into the structure...

Measurement of the Zeeman effect in an atomic anion: Prospects for laser cooling of Os−

The negative osmium ion Os− is one of very few atomic anions potentially suitable for laser cooling. We have made a measurement of the Zeeman splitting of a bound-bound transition in 192Os− by studying the laser excitation from the 5d76s2 4F e9/2 ground to the 5d 66s26p D9/2 excited state in a homogeneous external magnetic field. The experimental Landé factors gJ = 1.31(7) and gJ = 1.50(8), res...

Laser cooling of molecular anions.

We propose a scheme for laser cooling of negatively charged molecules. We briefly summarize the requirements for such laser cooling and we identify a number of potential candidates. A detailed computation study with C_{2}^{-}, the most studied molecular anion, is carried out. Simulations of 3D laser cooling in a gas phase show that this molecule could be cooled down to below 1 mK in only a few ...

Population change in the fine structure levels of cesium atoms using chirped laser

Here, the population transfer between two specific levels of Cesium atomunder the influence of chirped laser source has been numerically investigated. The maingoal of this study is the engineering of the population transfer between the 62S1/2 and 62P1/2levels of Cesium which is corresponding to its D1 transition line using a chirped lasersource. Constructing the system Hamiltonian, as well as t...
